Email Marketing Benefits As ComparedTo Cold Calling And Direct ...

Email marketing is a traditional form of marketing but does have a tendency to be misunderstood and underestimated. When approached correctly, it is an excellent technique for customer engagement and is well worth any business researching. There are many benefits to email marketing, which can be understood by businesses in order to understand the positive effect that email marketing can have.

The first benefit is the reduced time and effort that is required in the method. Cold calling businesses and clients does take a lot of time and are two of the most common offline marketing methods. Direct mail marketing takes time in its creation, revisions, printing, stuffing and sending. Then, a business has to wait for the mail to be received at the other end. Cold calling or telesales campaigns, involve the creation of a script, dialling, no answers and some dead-end results.

Email marketing services UK offer benefits in time ? you can send a marketing email in just a few hours. A business can use recurring templates for these emails and simply amend the email and make a few changes to the graphics. An email is easy to send to a database of clients, although the service is more beneficial when completed by professional email marketing services UK as they will be able to statistically decide whom to target with the email and generate the correct data to do so. Then, the email can be sent without hassle and with a positive end result.

Email marketing allows real-time information to be passed onto potential clients. Both telesales and direct mail take more time to develop and implement;so by the time the information has reached the potential client, there could be new developments. An email marketing attempt can consist of information from just minutes before the message is sent. Products and services can be marketed immediately.?Email marketing services UK?ensures that short time frames can be adhered to with ease.

Email marketing and telesales are created to speak to a very wide range of people. Emails, however, make it possible to speak to customers or clients on more of a direct level. Emails can be personalised with a name and can even enclose personalised information such as previous purchase history. You can segment your data into smaller lists and send out more personal emails to certain groups with different criteria.

Email marketing techniques are much more cost effective and time effective too. The money and time that a business can save is incredible and the technique is known to be highly effective. Outsourcing a business? email marketing to a professional company allows a business to reach a greater number of potential clients with minimal work. With little time and effort used, a business can see the benefits quickly without hassle. Email marketing services can be found easily online and the best can be found with a little bit of research. Businesses can use the web to their advantage in many ways including reading reviews to ensure they get the best of the best in terms of service.

Scientists aim to build a better Christmas tree

PUYALLUP, Wash. ? Katie Coats used to work in a crime lab in Seattle. These days, she reports to a quieter research facility about 40 miles south, in the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Here, Coats wields a surgical blade on her subjects, slicing away small chunks of cells and delicately dropping them in vials to preserve for genetic analysis.

Coats isn't trying to chase down rapists or serial killers. She's using the tissue ? which, on a recent day, came from a Canaan fir ? to make better Christmas trees.

Or so her boss, plant pathologist Gary Chastagner, hopes.

It's tempting to think the evergreen in your living room is a pristine piece of nature, plucked from a silent and snowy hillside.

In fact, for at least the last 30 years, the majority of American Christmas trees have come from farms, planted in methodically managed rows and tended on a rigorous schedule. They have been bred to have that crisp clean mountain smell and that fresh bluish hue. They've been sheared to get those thick, brushy needles and that tight conical shape.

And a small cadre of researchers such as Chastagner has been perfecting them in the lab too.

These sleuths have spent decades counting and measuring needles and branches, sometimes setting up pop-up labs near Christmas tree lots. Like champion rose growers, they nurture the beauties and weed out the "Charlie Brown trees" that are oddly shaped, or trees that grow too slowly or fall prey to pests.

Armed with a $1.3-million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Chastagner and his fellow Christmas tree scientists are adding genetic analysis to their arsenal. Their goal is to pinpoint why some trees turn out better than others.

The researchers don't expect consumers to share their interest in tree taxonomies ? what makes a spruce different from a pine, or a Douglas fir ? not really a "true" fir, they note ? different from a balsam, Fraser or noble fir.

"They may know, 'I bought this tree last year, it was a noble fir, I liked the strong branches,'" Chastagner said. "Or they may know, 'I grew up with a Douglas fir and I liked how it smells.'"

His real concern, he added, is that no matter what tree a shopper picks, it does not have any of the annoying inconveniences that make people turn to artificial trees instead of the real thing.

It may not approach the seriousness of halting climate change, but Chastagner sees his quest as a matter of survival for the U.S. Christmas tree industry, which employs about 100,000 people and brings in more than $1 billion a year.

According to the National Christmas Tree Assn., Americans bought 30.8 million farm-grown Christmas trees in 2011, spending an average of $34.87.

Those numbers haven't changed much in the last 50 years, even as the number of U.S. households has grown and tree quality has improved, Chastagner said. In the meantime, sales of "plastic tree-shaped decorations," as a spokesman for the National Christmas Tree Assn. calls them, have been creeping up.

So Christmas tree growers are highly motivated to address the foibles that turn off consumers. (One word: needles.)

Chastagner joined the cause shortly after coming to Washington State University's agricultural research center here in 1978. He spends his autumns visiting tree plantations, big-box stores like Wal-Mart and corner retail lots across the country, hounding salespeople and performing spot inspections of the goods. (His two sons grew up dreading these drive-bys.)

Typically, after peppering a salesperson with questions about deliveries and maintenance, Chastagner gets permission to take a few photos with an ever-present camera and snip away small cuttings from 10 or so trees. Then he will steal away to his car or a table at a nearby fast-food joint, whip out a portable scale, weigh them "fresh" and then send the clippings back to Puyallup to test their moisture content.

Chastagner has analyzed whether using preservatives, fertilizers or chemicals to slow the evaporation of water from leaves will improve needle retention.

By and large, his data suggest, the answer is no.

Are There Lessons in Life, Finance and Urban Design to Be ...

Over at Wise Bread, a frugal living website, Julie Rains lists a number of lessons that one can learn from the film "It's a Wonderful Life." I am not sure she gets it right; George made a lot of mistakes, almost loses everything and only survived the event because his plastic-making war-profiteering University buddy, Sam Wainwright, bailed him out at the last moment on Christmas Eve. I wrote about this in 2006, pre-housing crash, wondering why everyone thought it was such a wonderful life, taking people's money to build suburbs.

George made his money by building suburban houses in a Levittown-like Bailey Park, where the houses are far apart and the street allowance looks about 300 feet wide. Here he is giving a lift to the Martini family, who are leaving a dense, racially mixed and multicultural community. Mr. Martini could probably walk to his restaurant from there.

In Bailey Park, Mr. Martini has a lovely detached house, On moving in George gives him bread, so he will never know hunger, salt so that life will always have flavour and wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever. but what about gas? How will he get to work? Mr. Martini will now have to feed a car as well as a family.

Of course George built the houses for Joe and the Kennedys and Mrs. Maitland with money he got from depositors , sliced and diced them up and gave them notes as security, but that didn't stop them from demanding their money back from a bank so under-capitalized that it couldn't cover a four thousand dollar error. Talk about living on the edge.

Bailey house/Public Domain

Meanwhile, like all bankers and developers, he spends his money on a big old drafty house that keeps his wife working day and night just to hold together.

In the end, Bailey gets Bailed out; bankers always do, and the opportunity to turn Bedford Falls into the thriving hotspot that Mr. Potter envisioned, with tourists and restaurants and music and dancing, is lost. Gary Kamiya described it:

Pottersville/Screen capture

Pottersville offers a rich variety of nightlife and entertainment. There is something for every taste and every budget. Pool and billiards sharpen hand-eye coordination. Dime-a-dance joints promote bonhomie. Prize fights and strip clubs provide weary citizens with much-needed catharsis. ..And, of course, there are the town?s many fine taverns. Alas, we will never know what delights are hidden behind the door of the Indian Club or the Bamboo Room, the Midnight Club or the Blue Moon.

Like so many New England mill towns that thrived on water power, Bedford Falls needed revitalization, a new commercial raison d'etre. And what did George Bailey give it? Real estate development in the 'burbs.

Sorry, Julie at Wise Bread, if there are any financial lessons to be learned from "It's a wonderful life", you are not going to learn them from George Bailey.

Bombing kills 4, wounds 11 in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP) ? An explosion at a shop selling CDs killed 4 people in a town northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday.

Police officials say a bomb hidden in a plastic bag exploded near the shop Saturday afternoon in the town of Qazaniyah. Eleven people were wounded in the attack, and the shop was completely destroyed. Qazaniyah is 180 kilometers (110 miles) northeast of Baghdad.

A medic in a nearby hospital confirmed the death toll. All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to brief reporters.

Violence has ebbed in Iraq, but insurgent attacks are still frequent.

The attack comes in the midst of growing political uncertainty.

Iraq's president Jalal Talabani, who was working to ease tensions between Iraq's Shiite Arab-led government and the Kurdish minority, suffered a stroke earlier this week and was flown to Germany for treatment. And on Thursday, Iraqi security forces arrested at least 10 guards assigned to the finance ministry, angering the Sunni minister and his political allies.

In the northern Kurdish region, Sunni parliament speaker, Osama al-Nujaifi met with the leader of the self-ruled Kurdish region, Massoud Barzani in order to discuss their response to the growing crisis.

In a statement after their meeting, both sides expressed their discontent with the arrests, calling on the central government to take into consideration the "delicate period Iraq is going through."

???? ? Navigating ?China's Internet?

Adapted from an article written for Canada China Business Council?s ?Business Forum? magazine. ?Read the published version in the 2012 Fall/Winter edition.CCBC Business Forum Magazine

?One World, Two Internets? is how long-time China media analyst Bill Bishop describes China?s position in the online world.??Encouraging consumers to ?like us on Facebook? may be common practice for companies around the world, but not in China, where Facebook is blocked and still has minimal penetration.??When it comes to marketing via social media in China, Western companies find that it?s a whole different world.

Attending a conference in Silicon Valley, I heard one speaker say: ?In China they have no Facebook, no Twitter, no YouTube, no Google; they know almost nothing about the Internet!???Wrong. They have Weibo and WeChat and Youku and Baidu, and more.??Each of these has hundreds of millions of users and is a household name across China.??China?s online community is incredibly vibrant, technologically advanced and increasingly global in scope; it?s just that they play their own game.? In fact, China has the world?s most active social media environment, with over 300 million users.? China?s netizens on average spend 40% of their time at social media sites, a much higher percentage than in the West.

For companies looking to market themselves in China through social media, setting up a Facebook page, a Twitter feed or a YouTube channel will get you nowhere.??Waiting for sites to become unblocked may well take longer than the entire history of these companies to date.??Hoping that Chinese consumers will use readily-available tools to reach blocked sites is futile ? the vast majority simply don?t bother to even try.??You have to learn how to navigate ?China?s Internet.?

King of the hill in China?s social media scene at present is Weibo, often erroneously described as ?China?s Twitter?.? While Weibo clearly began as a Twitter clone, like many Chinese Internet start-ups it quickly evolved into something more, adapting to its own environment and user preferences. These days, Weibo is much more versatile and offers more functionality than Twitter, and continues to release new features on a steady basis.

Moving beyond the ?square peg in a round hole? approach of describing Chinese web services as ?the Chinese version of?? is an important step towards understanding China?s Internet.? There really is no ?Chinese Facebook?, because the industry is much more fragmented in China, and no one site has the power or influence of a Facebook.? Beyond Weibo, popular sites like Renren and Kaixin offer much of the social networking services of Facebook, but each with their own niche.? The inability of any one player to become truly dominant has forced sites to differentiate themselves and focus more on specific market segments.? Perhaps as a result, over 80% of social media users in China subscribe to multiple sites ? again a much higher average than in Western countries

Even Weibo (which literally means ?micro-blog?) is fragmented.? Among white-collar users in first tier cities and among a large contingent of overseas Chinese, ?Weibo? refers to Sina Weibo.? But ask grassroots users in second and third tier cities which micro-blogs they follow and the answer is usually Tencent Weibo. ?And then there?s WeChat, already threatening to eclipse Weibo and become China?s first truly global Internet product.

If all this seems confusing, it?s because it is. China?s social media scene is a messy, diverse and rapidly evolving environment. ?Yet this is the main online forum where people are exchanging information and forming opinions. ?It?s no longer sufficient to simply have a Chinese language website and wait for people to visit.?To be effective, you have to pick your online venues based on your target audience and manage your exposure across social media platforms.

For my part, I currently maintain micro-blogs on both Sina and Tencent. And while information is often cross-posted, I find there is little overlap between the roughly 2 million followers on either site.

Accumulating vast hordes of zombie followers does little more than boost one?s ego, however. What?s more important is being involved and helping shape opinions within this very active forum.??More impact tends to come from being re-posted and thus reaching new users, or simply raising a topic and watching the ensuing discussion take on a life of its own.??You don?t have to say everything for yourself, because others will fill in the blanks. ?You?re only?one voice in a multi-nodal conversation, and what?s more important is not what you or anyone else says specifically, but the general tone?of the online discussion and the fact that a discussion is taking place at all.

Keep it down-to-earth and as personalized as possible, but grow a thick skin.??This is not a place to simply be issuing press releases and impersonal, standardized notices. And be prepared for the strong anti-commercial, anti-authoritarian, anti-just-about-everything streak of social media. ?Much of the commentary on Weibo and other social media can be discouraging, but the overall impact is well worthwhile.

Increasingly I am finding that media inquiries, performing and business opportunities are coming out of the buzz created on Weibo.? Even for serious business enquiries, people are much more likely reach out with a first message via Weibo than to use the traditional ?Contact Us? page on my website. ?And traditional media outlets are increasingly referring to social media sites for story ideas, so momentum gained on Weibo often continues to grow through print, radio and television.

Of course, social media is a natural forum for public figures, but corporations and other organizations are also increasingly using the medium to communicate directly with their customers, users, or simply a broader public audience. ?We all face the same challenge of how to reach out to ordinary Chinese citizens with as few barriers and filters as possible.? Actively participating in the domestic social media scene in China provides the most direct way to do that.

If you?re truly interested in engaging your Chinese customers/users/audience in a real conversation via social media, invite yourself onto their turf and join in the discussions that are happening on ?China?s Internet.?

Kapo Trading Expands Plus Size Women's Hawaiian Clothing Line ...

Plus size clothing has come a long way within the clothing industry and fashion market, especially for Hawaiian clothing. In the past, the choices regarding clothing made for plus size individuals was very limited, often lacking a respect to the ever-changing fashion trends within society. The availability of different styles was quite poor and unaccommodating. The demand for a better selection has increased with the unfortunate rise in overweight individuals across the world.

The interest in the plus size clothing market has increased due to the increasing levels of obesity and eating disorders that plague a large number of individuals. The shape and size of the average person has increased throughout the years, demanding a shift in the way clothes are designed, produced, and marketed ? especially from women, who as a whole have become larger and heavier than they appeared about 20 years ago. People who are now reaching their 40s and 50s are adding to the increase in obesity ? more than 60% of this group is in need of plus size clothing.

Supplying a Market Need ? Women and now becoming more comfortable in their own skin ? and their own clothing

Retailers and designers have noticed the intense need for plus size clothing and have made strides within the market. Kapo Trading Company, a retailer of Hawaiian clothing, has seen a significant increase in its plus size clothing orders over the last couple years, so has decided to expand its plus size Hawaiian Clothing line for women?s muumu dresses. While many picture large ugly muumuu dresses as typical plus size clothing, the styles now are beautiful, vibrant and flattering.

Stacey Riska, President of Kapo Trading Company notes, ?Plus size clothing is not meant to cover a fuller figure, but to enhance it. Boxy shapes and dowdy fabrics are a thing of the past. Today, plus size clothing is vibrant, attractive and easy to wear.?

Kapo Trading Company delivers Hawaii to yo fashion coats u. Specializing in fun and authentic Hawaiian gifts, clothing, and decor. The Aloha spirit is something we live and enjoy every day.
