We have watched as motive8 MD, Nick Sadler, has become an avid ?networker? in recent months. He?s always been really good when face-to-face with people?a natural salesman, but has taken it to new levels lately!
Firstly he took off on a tour of the country to seek out new leads and business opportunities, then joined multiple networking groups and even went as far as setting up his own with other local businesses (think a pub was involved there too mind you).
We have many visitors in the office these days and each holds a world of opportunity ? a fresh network of contacts, expert knowledge and experience.
It?s a well known fact that word of mouth referral is often the main stream of new business ? create good relationships, do a great job, get recommended, win new business and so on. It makes it all seem so simple.
It?s obviously not that simple. You have to work extremely hard to maintain a good relationship in the first place?and to do what is qualified as a ?great? job. I?ve seen Nick do ridiculous hours to fit in formal networking ? 5.30am ? 10.30pm on a Wednesday!! Maybe this is what stops me doing the breakfast networking meetings?
I think something must be working though as it seems very busy at motive8 these days, everyone is buzzing around and there?s a great atmosphere. There?s so much opportunity within the industry we operate and with such a strong and positive team things just have to be a success.
I recently helped put a motive8 company prospectus together and it really made me feed proud and excited about what?s been achieved since motive8 was born.
Back to the networking, whether it be formal or informal, we all do it every day. It?s basic interaction ? sharing knowledge and positivity. It?s worth thinking about though and seeing if something many of us do so naturally can actually win new business?more effective than an expensive advert any day!
