Volkswagen Golf CC on Its Way in 2015 to Rival Mercedes CLA

The sleek four-door coupes are frenzy these days, so it does not come as a surprise that Volkswagen too is planning an all-new four-door coupe version of the Golf which would wear a Golf CC badge. The company has already announced late last year that it will not be producing a next-generation Volkswagen Golf EOS ? the company?s first folding hardtop. Instead, it will create a smaller CC to be based on a stretched version of the new Volkswagen Golf?s MQB platform. The newcomer is designed to take on the forthcoming Mercedes CLA and it will be much sportier and stylish than the sensible Golf-based Jetta saloon.

Although the CC will be available in the UK showrooms, the primary focus is going to be on the big markets, the US and China where cars like the Jetta is already huge sellers. The styling of the car draws inspiration from the Golf. The tweaked front end now incorporates a large air intake that spans the width of the bumper. Meanwhile, a sharp crease runs down the CC?s flanks to a set of narrow wraparound LED tail-lights. The Golf CC will also be fitted with a wide-opening hatchback tailgate to help improve access. The model will also feature a roomy interior.

Engine options will be passed on so choices would include a turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol with 120 HP (88 kW) and a 2.0-liter TDI with 150 HP (110 kW). The company could also offer a GTI variant with a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine that generates 220 HP (164 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The expected launch date of the Golf CC is in 2015 with a base price of approximately ?19,000.
