Smartphones: the future of wartime communication? That is the goal of the US Army through the development of its portable wireless network, dubbed Warfighter Information Network-Tactical or WIN-T. The Army hopes to leverage WIN-T to bring near-instant digital communication to the battlefield by outfitting soldiers with Motorola Atrix handsets running a heavily modified version of Android. An exposé by Wired explains that the system's main goal is information and intelligence sharing; between both soldiers and central command. Friendly troop positions, suspicious vehicles or persons and surveillance video from unmanned areal vehicles (UAVs) can all be mapped and shared with servicemen and women in the field. It's been a dream of the Pentagon since the mid-nineties, but has only recently become monetarily and technologically feasible due to advances in smartphone processing power. It's nerdy, it's fascinating... and this is the stuff the Army is willing to talk about. Hit the source link for the full write-up.

Pest treatment should not be considered as an optional home improvement service; rather it should be taken as a serious compulsory work. If you are located at Canberra, getting the help of the Pest Control Canberra service provider regularly at least once in two months can ensure maximum protection to your home against any form of bugs. With regular activities, you will not only prevent dreaded pest creeping around your home, but will also ensure a health and clean home.
When a professional service provider is invited regularly, he can clearly identify the structural damage that can be caused by the pests well in advance in such a way that your building can be protected. Even though, most of the pests do not cause structural damage to the building, some of them can create problems in the electrical wiring of the home and some might cause some diseases to the incumbents of your home. Here are the reasons for considering the help of a pest control service provider regularly:
Early detection of problems created by pests: Most of the rodents and bugs reproduce rapidly once they have found a suitable place in your home thereby causing a snowball effect in the home. When seeking the help of a professional pest control firm, the firm will be sending a professional who can stop the pest infestations from growing and in addition to solving the existing pest problem; they can also identify the potential pest problems and can wade off the pests even before they enter into your home.
Prevention of fire accidents: Some of the gnawing mammals like hamsters, squirrels and rats, otherwise called as Rodents chew items for preventing their teeth from growing. If these rodents do not chew something, their teeth will grow to a length that would prevent them from eating. Therefore, these living organisms always look for some materials to chew and so there are chances that they damage the electrical settings in the home thereby exposing the home to electrical shocks resulting in fire accidents. Only a professional Pest Control Canberra service provider can protect your home and other property from rodents with the help of some techniques and they can also prevent the entry of rodents by using some equipment like door closes, steel wool, aluminum sheeting, bird wire, etc...
These professional firms can also offer other services like prevention of diseases and they can eliminate the risk of structural damage to the home caused by some types of pests.
Effective pest control services are available in the market that not only control the growth of pests but also eliminates their infestation to the core. Find the best Pest Control Service Providers, Termite control Canberra Experts, Rodent Pest Control service providers in and around Canberra at A1 Pest Control Canberra.

Internet marketing promotion is like weight loss diet programs there are numerous options available, but may of them appear to be scams. one of the most used methods of generating web site promotion is pay per click.
If you are helping people make money then you can see how these simple phrases will not take up that much needed space although still informing people of everything you do. Use attention snagging words like. New, Proven, Discover, How To and etc. Use words that are a proactive approach. Just make sure that the words you use truly fit your site. Search engines for instance such as Google consider the choice to be junk or spam.
Whenever writing your advert, you need to be able to lay out what you can do for your customers. The catch actually is you only possess a limited space to do this in. Stay simple and do it in a couple of words. If you are usually helping people lose weight, then simply place slim.
Make certain you are using exactly the same keywords that are now being used in your site description. The reason this works is because the keywords that you simply type into search engines show up in bold inside the results. Studies have proven that ads along with bolded keywords included will be clicked more regularly.
One of the most important things you can do in internet marketing promotion is to include your keywords within your ads. Since online ads are relatively short, you will not be able to put too many keywords in and also have it still make sense. If you can fit a few keywords in your ads then you will be ok.
It?s also wise to test 2 new ads at the same time. This is known as an A/B test. Using this method, you can see which ad works better by achieving a higher click through ratio. Continue to make use of the ad that performs better and get rid of the one that carried out poorly. You can then write a new ad and test it along side one that performed the best. Continue doing this so you can have the most powerful ads.
This can be a pay per click way of advertising that anyone can easily incorporate into their website marketing plan. When placing a great online ad, you should continue to keep your target audience in your mind. You will want to have your ads written in the language that your target audience speaks. If you are speaking English, then don?t advertise to countries that would not have a large English speaking segment of the population.
Finally try to remove stop words from your ads. These are words for instance like a, an, it, in, on, and, but, if, etc. You have to make certain that every word within your ads helps you to get a click. With these and other internet marketing promotion tips for your use, you are sure to see an increase in traffic to your sites or blogs in addition to an increasing client base.

Waterfalls were the natural-formation origins of the shower. Nature-formed grooves serve as channels for water from the falls like huge showers that clean bathers underneath much more efficiently than washing from a basin.
The earliest documented users of indoor showers were the upper-class Egyptians and Mesopotamians. Servants poured water over them from dippers or jugs that served as shower heads. Used water flowed out through a crude drainage system.
It was the ancient Greeks who had first installed showers in large rooms for communal use and as such, did not have shower screens. They used lead pipes through which water was pumped in. They also had a decent drainage system using pipes of the same material. Ancient artwork showed evidence of their existence. The ancient Romans not only adopted the Greeks? way of bathing but also bathed almost daily. Unfortunately, it became a religious taboo after the Roman Empire fell.
It was not until the 19th century that an advanced water and sewerage system patterned after that of the Greeks and Romans came into existence. The first of these so-called modern-day showers reused water several times. The English Regency Shower was a showcase of this type. A basin containing water 10 feet above the shower was connected to the pipes allowing water to flow through a nozzle right above the bather. The used water was collected and pumped back up for reuse.
In 1850, taking a shower was made simple by connecting the free-standing shower to a source of running water. More comfort in bathing was made possible by an easier access to heated water popularizing hot/warm shower but not nearly as popular as the traditional bath then in practice in industrialized countries until about the middle of the 1900s.
Modern
Later innovations did not really bring about significant changes in today?s domestic shower. There are generally two types of domestic showers today, the stall shower and the shower/bathtub. The stall shower is the kind that is shielded by glass or shower screens to prevent water from splashing or spraying outside of the shower stall. The shower/bathtub combination is normally shielded by cheap shower screens, made of water-repellent curtain materials that may either be slid or parted to let the bath/shower occupant through.
There are ostensibly new types of showers that are offered in the market today but are actually subtypes of the two main types mentioned above. Nomenclature for these subtypes is based on innovations and features added to them.
Modern technology has already tinkered with the commode. The time for bath/showers is not far behind.

When I wrote about the lyrical paintings of Charles Courtney Curran back in 2007 I mentioned being disappointed at the small amount of his work available on the web.
Since then the web has continued to expand, bless it?s silicon heart, and more resources for Curran?s idyllic scenes of women in gardens, hanging clothes and surrounded by flowers, as well as his scenes of children playing and domestic activity, have be come available.
Notably, Matthew D. Innis has an extensive and eclectic post on his blog Underpaintings that gives a nice overview of Curran?s work, though the images are not large. For that, look to the Metropolitan Museum of Art?s superb high resolution reproduction of Curran?s portrait of Betty Newell (above, top with detail), as well as some of the zoomable images among Christies past auction lots.
I?ve listed other resources below. For more, see my previous post on Charles Courtney Curran.
Greenland ice may exaggerate magnitude of 13,000-year-old deep freezePublic release date: 25-Jun-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]
Contact: Anders Carlson acarlson@geology.wisc.edu 608-262-1921 University of Wisconsin-Madison
MADISON -- Ice samples pulled from nearly a mile below the surface of Greenland glaciers have long served as a historical thermometer, adding temperature data to studies of the local conditions up to the Northern Hemisphere's climate.
But the method -- comparing the ratio of oxygen isotopes buried as snow fell over millennia -- may not be such a straightforward indicator of air temperature.
"We don't believe the ice cores can be interpreted purely as a signal of temperature," says Anders Carlson, a University of WisconsinMadison geosciences professor. "You have to consider where the precipitation that formed the ice came from."
According to a study published today by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the Greenland ice core drifts notably from other records of Northern Hemisphere temperatures during the Younger Dryas, a period beginning nearly 13,000 years ago of cooling so abrupt it's believed to be unmatched since.
Such periods of speedy cooling and warming are of special interest to climate scientists, who are teasing out the mechanisms of high-speed change to better understand and predict the changes occurring in our own time.
In the case of the Younger Dryas, average temperatures -- based on the Greenland ice -- plummeted as much as 15 degrees Celsius in a few centuries, and then shot back up nearly as much (over just decades) about 1,000 years later.
"In terms of temperature during the Younger Dryas, the only thing that looks like Greenland ice cores are Greenland ice cores," Carlson says. "They are supposed to be iconic for the Northern Hemisphere, but we have four other records that do not agree with the Greenland ice cores for that time. That abrupt cooling is there, just not to the same degree."
Working with UWMadison climatologist Zhengyu Liu, collaborators at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and others, Carlson found their computer climate model breaking down on the Younger Dryas.
While it could reliably recreate temperatures in the Oldest Dryas -- a similar cooling period about 18,000 years ago -- they just couldn't find a lever in the model that would simulate a Younger Dryas that matched the Greenland ice cores.
"You can totally turn off ocean circulation, have Arctic sea ice advance all the way across the North Atlantic, and you still will have a warmer climate during the Younger Dryas than the Oldest Dryas because of the carbon dioxide," Carlson says.
By the time the Younger Dryas rolled around, there was more carbon dioxide in the air -- about 50 parts per million more. The warming effects of that much CO2 overwhelmed the rest of the conditions that make the Oldest and Younger Dryas so alike, and demonstrates a heightened sensitivity for Arctic temperatures to rising greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
The researchers zeroed in on the Northern Hemisphere's temperature outlier, Greenland ice cores, and found that the conversion of oxygen isotope ratio to temperature typically used on the ice cores did not account for the sort of crash climate change occurring during the Younger Dryas. It assumes prevailing winds and jet streams and storm tracks are providing the moisture for Greenland precipitation from the Atlantic Ocean.
"The Laurentide ice sheet, which covered much of North America down into the northern United States, is getting smaller as the Younger Dryas approaches," Carlson says. "That's like taking out a mountain of ice three kilometers high. As that melts, it allows more Pacific Ocean moisture to cross the continent and hit the Greenland ice sheet."
The two oceans have distinctly different ratios of oxygen isotopes, allowing for a different isotope ratio where the water falls as snow.
"We ran an oxygen isotope-enabled atmosphere model, so we could simulate what these ice cores are actually recording, and it can match the actual oxygen isotopes in the ice core even though the temperature doesn't cool as much," Carlson says. "That, to us, means the source of precipitation has changed in Greenland across the last deglatiation. And therefore that the strict interpretation of this iconic record as purely temperature of snowfall above this ice sheet is wrong."
By the study's findings, Greenland temperatures may not have cooled as significantly as climate headed into the Younger Dryas relative to the Oldest Dryas, because of the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide that had occurred since the Oldest Dryas.
"You can say at the end of the Younger Dryas it warmed 10, plus or minus five, degrees Celsius. But what happened on this pathway into the event, you can't see," Carlson says.
It's a fresh reminder from an ancient ice core that climate science is full of nuance, according to Carlson.
"Abrupt climate changes have happened, but they come with complex shifts in the way climate inputs like moisture moved around," he says. "You can't take one difference and interpret it solely as changes in temperature, and that's what we're seeing here in the Greenland ice cores."

Greenland ice may exaggerate magnitude of 13,000-year-old deep freezePublic release date: 25-Jun-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Several months ago, fellow blogger Kees Baggerman covered?RDS: Windows 8 Scenario-based RDS deployment?which included a 10 minute YouTube video on RDS Session Virtualization (aka terminal services).? In this article, I am going to cover the other element of RDS scenario-based installation, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. Microsoft VDI technologies have been around for several iterations of Hyper-V and Server 2008. With 2008 R2 SP1 Microsoft introduced RemoteFX, a promising technology for virtual desktop GPU acceleration.? However, in the past there have been several challenges with deploying Microsoft VDI, namely the initial desktop provisioning and stateless pooling.? With Server 2012, these two components have several promising enhancements.
First, Server 2012 now has a built-in provisioning mechanism whereby a powered down and SysPrep?d Hyper-V virtual machine can be used as a master desktop to provision collections of virtual desktops. This means that System Center Virtual Machine Manager is no longer a requirement or nicety for the initial provisioning of the systems. Additionally, this built-in provisioning mechanism uses VHD differencing disks, similar to the VMware linked clone and Citrix MCS disk chaining technologies.? Second, Server 2012 now has a stateless pooling and reverting mechanism whereby changes to the virtual desktops are reverted upon logoff. This means pooled VDI desktops are no longer tainted by previously logged in users. To demonstrate these capabilities, let?s start by deploying a simple VDI infrastructure including three servers: a Connection Broker (CB01), a Web Access server (WA01), and a Virtualization Host (HV01). Each of these three systems consists of typical installations of Server 2012, joined to a single domain.

Google CEO Larry Page remains silent about coming Google attractions, not because he refuses to speak but because he can't.
During the company's annual shareholders meeting Thursday, Executive Chariman Eric Schmidt announced that Page has lost his voice and will be unable to do any public speaking for at least a month. That means Page won't speak at next week's annual Google I/O developers conference in San Francisco or during the company's quarterly earnings conference call next month.
"That said, Larry will, of course, continue to run the company," said Schmidt, who is stepping into Page's shoes as the voice of Google for the time being.
Google has not released information on Page's medical condition, described the cause of his loss of voice, or said when he will return to public speaking events.
The 39-year-old CEO will communicate via email and other forms of written messaging during his recovery. Schmidt quoted co-founder Sergey Brin who joked that this could "make Larry a better CEO because he will have to choose his words carefully."
At Thursday's meeting, shareholders approved an April proposal that allows Page, Schmidt, and Brin to issue new shares without losing any of their own voting power, Bloomberg reported. However, that change won't happen until a class action lawsuit by shareholders is resolved.

Sometimes I think news agency are much worse in writing rumors than I do in my very amateurish way here on 43rumors. Every couple of weeks new agreement rumors are spreading through the world and getting posted on all newspaper from The New York Times down to my little local newspaper read by 2,000 farmers. Imagine if I would post a different GH3 rumor every two weeks?you would want my scalp
Anyway, I will report this news but as you have learned you have to take these ?rumors? as they are?just rumors. Nikkei ?reports that Olympus is in final talks with Sony to get a roughly 50 billion yen capital injection in return for a stake?. Olympus of course denied the existence of such an agreement.
Sony is a company in a very deep crisis and I really don?t know if that would be a good deal for Olympus. Let?s see, I still think Olympus is trying to find a way to avoid any partnership with other electronic giants like Sony, Panasonic or Fuji.
Sonora, CA -- A longtime Sonora business has a new name. Hammond Ford has been sold to businessman Manuel Prieto.
Paul Hammond says the sale was finalized on Thursday. He and his father Don opened Hammond Ford in 1982 at its current location on Mono Way, and the facility was expanded in 1994.
Hammond says his decision to sell the business and retire was bitter sweet.
"We've met some really wonderful people who have been customers since the beginning," adds Hammond. "I'll miss the contact with the people who would just come in to say hello."
Hammond says he sincerely appreciated the loyalty shown by many customers. He notes that one particular family, when you count the parents and children, purchased over 40 cars since the opening in 1982.
The new owner Prieto has been in the car business for over 25 years, and most recently served as the General Manager of a dealership in Fresno. "I'm extremely excited," he says. "This is a great community, and I'm happy that this opportunity presented itself."
A banner has been placed up showcasing its new name, "Sonora Ford."
Hammond Ford started with just over a handful of employees, and ended with around 20. Prieto says despite the ownership change, the Hammond employees will still have a job. He also plans to hire additional staff over the next year. Prieto says customer service is his number one priority. One of his plans is to increase the inventory on hand at the dealership in hopes that less people will drive to the Central Valley to purchase a new vehicle.
