After all, computer programs are written and robots are built to perform repetitive and/or hazardous tasks. This is essential in the repetitive version to ensure things are always done the same way, assisting in quality control checks. As for hazardous jobs, the usefulness of a robotic proxy for flesh and blood cannot be understated.
Still, given how much time we spend each day glued to a screen of some kind or other, I think it's safe to say that if there could be a "robot apocalypse", it's already happened. :P
