From its very inception, The Class Room wanted to be a vehicle and catalyst for positive change within the Houston community. ?We wanted to be a place where not only people could find quality clothing and exclusive brands, but a place where people meet to exchange thoughts, ideas, knowledge, and inspiration. ?In pursuit of these goals, TCR will begin hosting periodic lectures and Q&A sessions on a broad range of topics, from fashion, business, photography, whiskey and wine tastings, and anything else our customers might be interested in learning more about.
The first installment in this series will be a topic many people have come into the store to ask me about, a topic I hold near and dear to my heart, and it?s how to start a retail business. ?I?ll cover the basics of how we started our business and share some lessons we learned the hard way in hopes that it helps the next person out. ?I imagine this could be a 2 or 3 part series, but in this first lecture I will cover:
- Our approach to estimating costs, which in turn helped in?
- Creating a business plan
- Permits, fees, and other government requirements
- Financing and loans
- Open Q&A
Some may wonder why we would help potential competitors get started. ?One of the main reasons we started TCR was to help Houston ?come up? culturally in hopes it would one day be a destination city the likes of New York, LA, Chicago, etc. ?There are others in the city working to make Houston a fashion center, and we just want to do our part to help. ?Besides, competition is healthy, and there?s enough cake for all of us. ?Let?s break bread together.
